Citizenship Clinics Plus a Big Congratulations!
As Y employees, we have the privilege of witnessing the amazing work happening every day across the Association but when the wonderful programs that we work so hard for impact our own, that's something extra to celebrate!

You may have heard that our New American Welcome Center helps our community members work towards citizenship but did you know that they offer immigration clinics to help individuals navigate the citizenship process? Three of our own LA Y Team Members and their family members recently celebrated receiving citizenship through the program and we couldn't be more proud. Congratulations to Oscar Rodriguez (Mid Valley Y) who just celebrated with a ceremony as well as Chris Chavez and Maite Fierro whose family members have also completed the program and received citizenship recently.

Special thanks to our entire New American Welcome Center Team for the work they do every day to help support our community members on their pathway to citizenship and to Lionnel Zaragoza for sharing this incredible story. The LA Y's Citizenship Clinics are free and available monthly at our Ys across LA County.

Fun, Fabulous and Free!
Can you feel it? The days are getting longer and the morning air less crisp. In just a matter of weeks, the So Cal temperatures have risen just enough to add a few more hours of sunshine to each weekend. Uncertain of how to spend those hours?  See below for our recommendations on how to enjoy more of the beautiful April Spring days:

PySanka Festival
April 14th - Noon-5pm
Ukrainian Culture Center
Learn how to decorate a traditional Ukrainian Easter egg (a pysanka, which features colorful wax applied to the egg) during this free community festival. The Ukrainian Culture Center hosts an afternoon with Ukrainian food, entertainment and an Easter market. Though the event is free to attend, donations are accepted at the door; those as well as food and vendor proceeds benefit humanitarian war relief through the Ukrainian Art Center
and Post Angeles.
Now through May 5th
Downtown Arts District
In 1993, artist Charles Gaines mounted " The Theater of Refusal: Black Art and Mainstream Criticism," a UC Irvine gallery show that responded to the country’s cultural and political crises with works from then-up-and-coming Black artists. Now, three decades later, Hauser & Wirth has revived the show in two parts: a small reprise of "The Theater of Refusal" with ’90s pieces from Gaines, Gary Simmons and Lorna Simpson, as well as a larger room that continues the show’s themes with recent works from Lauren Halsey, Rashid Johnson, Caroline Kent and more.
