At the heart of the Y's mission lies an unwavering commitment to serving others and tackling the challenges that our communities face. As an organization, we constantly strive to achieve more, serve more people, and address emerging needs. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us that with the right partners by our side, we can accomplish anything.

In January, our YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles launched the Together in Service initiative, a collaborative effort that brings like-minded non-profits together to make a lasting impact on our communities. At the inaugural event, volunteers and partners convened at our beautiful Crenshaw Family YMCA and engaged in volunteer activities, marking the beginning of many volunteer-driven events to come. Recently, as part of this initiative, our LA Y participated in a day of volunteerism at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. This event exemplified the power of collaboration and the importance of supporting one another in times of need. By engaging volunteers and shining a spotlight on the critical needs of our communities, we can significantly amplify our impact and create a brighter future for all.

Not only does volunteering benefit our communities, it also has a profound impact on our personal wellbeing. Engaging in acts of service reduces stress, combats depression, keeps us mentally stimulated, and provides a sense of purpose. Volunteering connects us with others, fostering a support system and a sense of belonging. As we give back to our communities, we also nurture our own physical and mental health.

As an organization that thrives on hope and the potential for transformation, we can accomplish more each day because of the invaluable contributions of our team, both paid and unpaid. As we enter April, recognized globally as the month of Volunteerism, I urge each of you to be inspired by the “Together in Service” initiative. Let us find ways to get involved and enrich our communities, whether through the Y or our "Together in Service" partners.

Thank you for your dedication and contributions. Together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities that have the potential to thrive. Your dedication and support are the driving forces behind our success, and I am incredibly grateful for your commitment to making a difference.

Here’s to a month filled with hope, transformation, and service.
