Well Done, Team!
Congratulations to Gabriel Gonzalez! Gabriel has been announced as the Executive Director of the Santa Anita Family YMCA. Since Gabriel stepped into his role at the Santa Anita Family YMCA, he has led with passion and determination to transform the way the community sees and experiences the Y. During his tenure as the AED and then Interim ED, Gabriel executed and exceeded the FD goals while simultaneously rebuilding the branch, programs, and membership offerings. Gabriel provided the community with support through turkey giveaways at thanksgiving, Covid testing, and clothing drives for seniors. In the summer, Gabriel led the branch in summer program enrollments, exceeding day camp targets and partnering with Monrovia Unified for use of the Monrovia HS Pool at no cost. Congratulations, Gabriel!!

(Special thanks to Jen Sullivan for providing the information for this shout-out!)

Fun, Fabulous and Free!
Local Things to Do On a Non-Profit Budget
Once a month, the Griffith Observatory hosts a free Star Party where volunteers from local planetary societies and amateur astronomers come out to share telescopes and knowledge with the public. If you're interested in astronomy or just want an excuse to view the city from a different perspective, Star Parties are a fun way to appreciate the world above from a beautiful historic LA landmark. The next Star Party will held on March 25 until 9:45pm. For more information on upcoming dates, please check out their website!
Inspiration

In the 5th century B.C., Siddhartha Gautama was born into a wealthy family as a prince in present-day Nepal. Gautama was moved by the suffering he observed in the world, later becoming known as "the Buddha" and founding Buddhism. The following words from Gautama are a great reminder of the importance of self-love:

"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection"

We'd love to hear your favorite quotes! Email the words that have made an impact on you to erinsacco@ymcala.org and we may share them in a future newsletter. Thank you to Aishwarya Kokatay for the above quote.
