Peering from some high window, at the gold of November sunset and feeling that if day has to become night, this is a beautiful way.”  - E. E. Cummings

Expanded Retirement Smart Account Options

With a competitive contribution rate and savings account options open to all Y Team Members, The YMCA Retirement Fund continues to be one of the best benefits for Y staff. While the YMCA of Metro LA currently contributes 10% once eligible, Y staff can begin saving for retirement at any time through the Fund with Smart Accounts. On January 1, 2024, a new variation on the Smart Account will enter the mix with the new Roth account. While it's up to you to determine your contribution amount through payroll deductions, the new Roth Account will allow Team Members to choose between the classic tax-deffered or the new Roth Accounts. This flexibitlity allows you to save in a way that works best for your future financial goals. Learn more about Smart Accounts and standard Y Retirement eligibility on their site.

Help us name the LA Y's new training center! In just a few months, our new training center will officially open it's doors! We think that the name is pretty important and would love our team to get creative and share their thoughts! If you have an idea for a fitting name for our new training center, let us know! Fun, Fabulous and Free!
No-Cost Activities Happening Locally This Month
  • Festival of Lights - Nov 18 - January. The gorgeous Mission Inn of Riverside is bathed in 4.5 million twinkly lights during the annual Festival of Lights. This free, 7-week-long holiday tradition features more than 400 animated figures.

  • Renegade Craft Fair - Nov 18 and 19. The Renegade Craft Fair is the fair all other fairs aspire to, with a marketplace of locally-focused work from hundreds of the best contemporary indie craft artists. Aside from the wares, Renegade offers all sorts of homemade DIY fun and festivities like classes and demos, free photo booths and tons of tasty food trucks. Renegade hosts an epic spring fair, along with a supplemental holiday fair in wintertime that helps you check everyone off your gift list—including yourself.

  • The Great Los Angeles Walk - Nov 18. Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, hundreds of walkers start the free urban hike on one side of the city and, about half a day later, end up at the other. You can hop on or off the walk whenever you’d like, and though no reservations are required, RSVPs are appreciated. This year’s route mixes things up with a loop and a bit of a bonus walk: Meet by the bear statue at Griffith Park and then you’ll tackle Los Feliz, Franklin, Fairfax, Pico and Western, back up to Griffith -from there you can hike up to the Observatory if you still have any energy left.
