Dear Y Team,

Today, something truly extraordinary happened at Dignity Health Sports Park.

More than 5,000 middle and high school girls from across Los Angeles showed up ready to be inspired, to move, to lead, and to believe in themselves. And for the first time in our history, they were joined by 1,000 more students in Mexico City, where our partners at YMCA of Mexico hosted the inaugural Girls Empowerment Day at the exact same moment. One mission. Two nations. One extraordinary day.

This is what our Center for Community Well-Being looks like in action. Today was about Belonging, as thousands of young women found community with one another and with accomplished leaders who look like them. It was about Health Equity, as students trained alongside Olympians, Paralympians, and professional athletes across dozens of sports, many of which they had never tried before. It was about Education Equity, as every moment was intentionally designed to connect sport with leadership, mentorship, and possibility. And it was about Civic Engagement, as we brought together LAUSD, community partners, professional sports organizations, and our binational YMCA family to show what is possible when we work together.

There is a moment at Girls Empowerment Day that I look forward to every year. It is the moment when a student tries something for the first time and you can see it on their face, that recognition that they are more capable than they knew. Today, that happened thousands of times. On the track, on the field, on the court, and in the arena. That is the Y. That is why we do this work.

As Los Angeles prepares to welcome the world for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, today was a reminder of the legacy we are already building. Girls Empowerment Day is not just an event. It is a statement about who we believe young women are and what they are capable of. And now, with the YMCA of Mexico standing alongside us, that statement is reaching further than ever before.

Thank you for believing in this work and for helping make today possible. I cannot wait to share more stories from the day as they come in.

Be well,

Victor
