Dear Team,

I hope this Friday finds you well. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, it is an opportune time to honor the rich culture, resilience, and accomplishments of the Hispanic community. This celebration holds special meaning for me as the first Hispanic President & CEO of the LA YMCA. My own heritage has been a guiding force, instilling the values of strength and determination that empower positive change.

Hispanics have made remarkable impacts across all fields - arts, music, literature, science, business, and beyond. Their spirit of compassion and adaptability enriches our society. Each of you similarly brings unique perspectives that contribute to the inclusivity and success of our organization.

I encourage you to take time this month to learn about the vibrant traditions and history of Hispanics. Engage in cultural events and conversations to foster greater understanding and appreciation. As we move forward, let us continue embodying inclusivity, empathy, and respect to create a workplace of unity.

I'm proud of our role in celebrating immigrants and refugees during Welcoming Week. Our citizenship workshops provided valuable assistance, sending the message that immigrants are valued members of our communities. I'm also inspired by our Hispanic Latino Leadership Network's work to support migrant children through the Casas YMCA. Please consider getting involved to enable further advocacy and empowerment.

Together, let us honor Hispanic Heritage Month and embrace the power of diversity. By highlighting the significance of this month-long celebration, we hope that you are inspired by the different ways that you can help address the issues currently affecting the Hispanic and Latino community while also playing a strong role in increasing visibility, enriching cultural competencies for the Y and reaffirming our bonds with members of the YMCA Hispanic and Latino community.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the LA Y family. Your dedication is integral as we advocate for and activate the Latino community.
